Answering Your Questions from the Webinar- Past, Present and Future: The Evolution of Enterprise Moodle in Higher Education

Start small, give your campus some time, and support your faculty every step of the way... These were just a few of the major items discussed at Thursday's webinar, "Past, Present and Future: The Evolution of Enterprise Moodle in Higher Education."

Presented by Campus Technology Magazine and featuring Blake Haggerty, Assistant Director of Instructional Design for the New Jersey Institute of Technology; and Clark Shah-Nelson, Manager of Online Education for SUNY Delhi, the webinar explored each campus' migration to an enterprise, fully- supported Moodle platform, their recommendations for a smooth transition, and their e-Learning plans for the future.

If you didn't get a chance to attend the live webinar, you can view it on-demand, here.

Below, we've provided answers to just a few of the audience questions. Next week, we'll be providing more answers to your questions for presenters Shah-Nelson and Haggerty, so stay tuned!

Q: Clark, What other schools in the SUNY system use Moodle (and Moodlerooms)?
  • Clark: "Potsdam, Plattsburgh, and Purchase - all have their own self-hosted Moodle (I believe). U Albany has Moodlerooms (in addition to Blackboard), and Empire State University is looking like they are moving from Angel to Moodle."

Q: I'd really like to learn more about the Banner/Moodle integration. Any suggestions?

Q: Clark, does the portal run on a separate system? Does it require a login, and is the login linked to Banner?
  • Clark: "It's just a directory of PHP files - no login. It's free running on a separate web server. Here's the link: http://tinyurl.com/helpportal."

Q: Is there a way to manage Resources (classrooms, projectors, etc...) booking through Moodle?

Q: There were two main resources mentioned by the presenters. Clark mentioned a document that outlined SUNY Delhi's LMS migration, while Blake mentioned a site with some Moodle tutorials. Could you provide those links?

Q: Do you know anything about Moodle integration with Datatel?

  • Moodlerooms offers two options for integrating with Datatel: Conduit (Moodlerooms’ systems integration tool) and the Datatel Intelligent Learning Platform (ILP).The Intelligent Learning Platform cohesively unites the traditional features of an LMS with the traditional set of ERP applications. The foundation of the solution is Datatel Portal powered by Microsoft SharePoint, Colleague, and Moodlerooms’ joule. This allows actions taken in one area to smartly leverage data from the other to proactively engage students. With the ILP, learners and instructors will see a predictable, consistent user experience via a single sign-on, and the consistency of the data collected will allow for a holistic, 360 degree view of the learner. The power of Colleague Web services and the strength of its administrative services further support an institution’s learning environment with program development and management, advising, and retention management. For more information on the ILP, email feedback@moodlerooms.com.
