What's New in joule 2: Synchronous

Today, we wanted to highlight joule Synchronous, one of the major new features available within joule 2, Moodlerooms' enterprise e-Learning platform based on Moodle 2.

Joule Synchronous is a real-time, synchronous communications tool that gives teachers and students access to virtual "live classrooms" in the form of instant meetings or scheduled synchronous events. Within these "live classrooms," teachers are enabled teachers to incorporate virtual discussion, screen sharing, and document sharing into the learning process for up to 100 virtual users at a time.

These meetings can have a high impact on a student's learning progression compared to other online asynchronous activities by giving the user opportunities to receive feedback in real-time from multiple peers. joule Synchronous also makes it possible to record sessions, enabling users with time conflicts to review content and discussions.

Primary Features of joule Synchronous:
  • Synchronous sessions are easily created and enable users to screen share, chat (text, voice and video), and share documents.
  • Session recordings can be shared to allow other students to gain the benefits of an impromptu student-teacher conversation.
  • Ability to share information in real-time with students from multiple campuses within one virtual classroom.
  • Schedule meetings in advance: scheduling meetings allows everyone to prepare and participate.
  • Single Sign On: no separate login. Seamless integration between joule and joule Synchronous.
  • Create ad-hoc meetings (instant room): create meetings/conversations on the fly.
  • Prevent meetings from over-booking available seats: because there are capacity limits on the number of available seats, scheduling allows you to monitor usage.
  • Access to Meeting Content: shared desktop and shared files (types: *.ppt, *.pptx, *.flv, *.swf, *.pdf, *.gif, *.jpg, *.png, *.mp3, *.html, or *.zip.).
