What's New in joule 2: Express

For the past few weeks, we've been highlighting the major new features available in joule 2, the newest iteration of our enterprise e-Learning platform based on open-source Moodle 2.

Today, we're focusing on joule 2's new Express capabilities.

Express is Moodlerooms' enhanced, in-house site design and template engine that provides basic and advanced users with tools to completely customize the appearance of their site, course categories and courses. Since joule's original release in 2009, Express has been used instead of the Moodle theme system to place branding capabilities in the hands of customers.

Express provides the following benefits:
  • Access to joule or Power’s dynamic information about users and courses
  • Ability to change appearance with and without advanced coding skills
  • Ability to create templates that can be selected or have their colors altered by an instructor at the course level
  • Real-time updates to site branding and appearance
  • Site-wide templates for consistent look and feel, with the flexibility to add personal touches at the department or course level
  • Easy-to-modify dynamic/drop-down navigational menus

How is Express different in joule 2?

Moodle 2 has provided new opportunities for enhanced site theme and course template design. joule 2 leverages these new capabilities to deliver:
  • User interface improvements/extensions
  • Five new stock templates
  • Five new icon design packs
  • Enhanced flexibility in site and template design/editing
  • Page tracking capabilities with Google Analytics
