joule 2's Release Date, Highlights on the Personalized Learning Designer

As detailed in yesterday's post, it's a big week for Moodlerooms. We've announced the June 6th release date for joule 2, the newest iteration of our enterprise e-Learning platform (In case you didn't see the announcement, check it out here.

So what goes into joule 2? In a nutshell...
  • joule 2 = Managed Open-Source Moodle 2 + Services + Enhanced Features

Back in November of 2010, open-source Moodle 2 was released to its community of over 40 million users. Moodle 2 is remarkably different from Moodle versions 1.0 - 1.9 and represents a major evolution in open-source e-Learning.

Moodlerooms has been working for many months to create joule 2, a turnkey, fully-supported e-Learning solution that harnesses the new features and functionality of Moodle 2 and extends its capabilities.

One of Moodle 2's new features is Conditional Release, which allows instructors to restrict the availability of any activity or content according to certain conditions such as dates, grade obtained, or activity completion. Moodlerooms has enhanced this feature in joule 2 with the Personalized Learning Designer (PLD). The PLD goes beyond Moodle 2’s Conditional Release feature and enables instructors to “stay personal” by creating individualized learning paths and establishing event-based “rules” that trigger special messages as well as differentiated activities and resources. With the PLD, instructors can automate elements of their course, so that participants have different experiences, based on their interaction with the course. This way, instructors can quickly identify key behaviors, then take action so as to re-mediate or accelerate learning.

Stay tuned in the coming weeks as we provide more information on the PLD and the other news features in joule 2. In the meantime, head over to our joule 2 page, here.
