Looking for ways to increase student engagement? Try adding Web Widgets into your Moodle or joule courses.

A web widget is an application that can be embedded in just about any website via HTML coding to add an extra level of user interaction. Some of the most common widgets include polls, video playback, trivia games, news feeds, and live social media feeds, among others.

Embedding one of these applications within a Moodle or joule course enables instructors to harness social media and other web 2.0 technologies to create a more interactive experience that engages students on new levels and builds a stronger learning community. Try to incorporate Web widgets by using them as a label to a course topic, placing them in the middle of a forum activity or adding an HTML block in the side columns of your course.
