A New Age of Learning Management Analytics: An Introduction

In October, Moodlerooms President, Lou Pugliese, published a whitepaper entitled, "A New Age of Learning Management Analytics." Due to its multiple focuses and the overall richness of the content, we thought it'd be a good idea to highlight particular excerpts from the whitepaper throughout the next few months.

A New Age of Learning Management Analytics starts by providing a great snapshot of the current state of the learning management system (LMS) in a turbulent education landscape. If you have any comments or would like to share insight on the current state of LMS, please share it in the comments below or feel free to contact us directly at feedback@moodlerooms.com

Setting the Stage: Learning Management Systems in a Turbulent Market
:
  • What could arguably be stated as one of the most rapidly and widely adopted learning technology in the history of U.S. higher education, learning management systems (LMS) have become a central, pervasive enterprise in the business of colleges and universities. LMSs have reshaped the way faculties teach and students learn and progress through their academic careers. A recent Delta Initiative report indicates that more than 90 percent of colleges and universities have a standardized, institutional LMS implementation . Emerging in the late 1990’s amidst the backdrop of broad-based use of the Internet in research and instruction, LMSs were originally developed as a way to help faculty leverage the power and promise of the Web in teaching and learning. Over the past decade, learning management systems have evolved from an optional instructional practice to an essential enterprise application woven through the fabric of instructional design and course delivery in virtually every institution in the U.S.
